The Issues: According to Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart always seems to know the best way to express my frustrations over the current issues, and right now the main issue has got to be health care.

It makes me so angry that people are going to town halls and protesting when they could be getting the answers they so desperately need. And it is also angering that some senators still have no idea what the heck their talking about, which only perpetuates the problem. Luckily, some people actually know what their talking about. I’m definitely liking this Goonsley guy.

Also, if your smart, you’ll inform yourself on the issues and get your questions answered by going to the White House’s Reality Check website and also watching President Obama’s Weekly Address from last week.

Anyway, this August 11th episode of The Daily Show is really one to watch. So here it is for your viewing pleasure:

Sucked into the Buffy-Verse

Hello faithful readers,

I’m sure you’ve probably wondered where in the world I disappeared off to and I do have answers.  Although it may seem quite boring to some, I have recently found myself sucked into the world of fanfiction.  Having read story upon story about Buffy/Dean, Buffy/Angelus, Max/Alec and all things Supernatural, I’ve seen no end to my addiction, until tonight.

I had my first sip of beer in over 4 months today, and well, let’s just say I’ve become quite the lightweight.  Two Heinekins and I feel tipsy and numb.  Not the best feeling, but enough for me to feel inspired to write.  Crazy how alcohol will do that to you.

But although my fanfiction addiction has been briefly halted, I still find myself drawn to the talent that is Joss Whedon (BtVS) and Eric Kripke (Supernatural).  And having had my friend D tell me over and over about Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, I finally gave in and found it.  To my amazement, it was right up on Hulu.com and it was AWESOME!  So for all of you who have had your friends up your ass about watching this 3 Act musical, here it is for your enjoyment:

Get in the Know About Your Government

Okay, so I haven’t been on the internet much these past few days, so I don’t have much to post.  But on Twitter, I noticed that the White House had posted some Health Insurance Information that I figured is probably pretty important for you all to know about.  So here’s the document they posted:

If you want to know more about what your government is doing, follow the White House Blog. Link is listed to the far right.

Phone Calls and Smiles

My mom is out of the hospital after a week long stay, and I finally got to talk to her for the first time since Monday.  I love talking to her so much.  When I call her in the morning, my day always is bright from that point on.  I have no idea what I’m going to do when she passes.  Who will listen to me yammer for hours about my life?  Who will care about everything I do?  Certainly not my stepdad who barely listens to me when I’m sitting 3 feet away from him.  Nobody but a mother could care the way she does and she’s leaving me.  I want to be able to smile when this is over, but she is the reason I smile in the morning.  She is the one who makes my day.

Second, TruBlood (the drink) will be available to buy at the HBO Shop.  A 4 pack is $16 dollars plus $5.95 shipping HERE for preorders.

And finally, here is a sneak peek of the rest of Season 2.  Is that Eric I spot behind Sookie on that bed???!!!

A Little Bit of Comic Con

Comic Con seems to be the one thing that everybody is talking about these days, myself included.  And since I seem to be lacking anything to write about I thought I’d just make a little post about the only thing I can seem to think about.  To think, the cast of Twilight and True Blood are all at one event.  The new Alice in Wonderland movie released it’s first trailer.  Not to mention that little appearance that Johnny Depp made on stage.  And sadly, (although I already have plans for next year to attend) I’m not in San Diego where the big hubba is going on.  :(

That doesn’t mean I can’t provide you all some excellent content though.  Here are some things that you already need to check out.  I’m sorry that all the New Moon stuff involves a lot of screaming girls, but what else did you expect?  Hopefully, Summit will have that new stuff up on the website soon.

A New Technology

So, I used Microsoft Access 2007 for the first time today.  Having never used Access before in my life, you can imagine how frickin’ tough it was to figure out.  I’m trying to have a database to record recipes on and it’s taking FOREVER!

I made all these tables and organized them into categories like Appetizers, Side Dishes and Entrees.  But when I finished that, I had to start the dreaded forms process, and boy did that take all night.  In the end, I only ended up with one form:  The appetizers form.  Hopefully, the rest will get done much quicker tomorrow.

If you’re curious, here’s what the form ended up looking like.  I think it looks like a first grader put it together.  If you have any suggestions on how to improve it, put it in the comments, but please put a step by step process.  Remember, I’m new at this.  Oh, and I’m too lazy to crop this tonight, so just deal.

Professional Film Position Blues

So, I was on Mandy.com today, and I came across an amazing crew opportunity for a short being shot on September 12 and 13th.  A notable short film director is looking for a 1st and 2nd AD for his latest short.  You can find more details: HERE.

Can I just say how angry I am that I am not in New York right now.  If  I was, I would have applied for this opportunity without skipping a beat.  :(    Better luck next time and I hope this information comes in handy for one of you out there.

Summer Reading and Family Lamentations

So, it’s my first blog post and it’s the middle of the summer.  I’m on the other side of the country from school in Washington State.  Why in the world would I start a blog now?  I have no idea really, but I do know that school life doesn’t just end over the summer.  NYU does offer a large variety of summer classes, summer housing and job opportunities.  And many of my friends have taken advantage of those items.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t afford NYC this first summer and neither could many people I know.  So what about us?  What happens to the suckers who have to go home?  Well, all I know is what I’ve been doing and that involves A LOT of reading.

Today, I went to my neighborhood’s library and checked out 6 new books.  I know, CRAZY, right?  Yeah, I kind of think so too, but as I perused the library’s nonfiction aisles, I couldn’t help but grab every book that could help me with the items that need to be done this year.  You see, I’m a student producer.  I’ve only produced one film so far, but for a freshman, producing a senior’s final film can be seen as a big deal and I’ve had a couple of people ask me for a little help with their own projects.  I feel the need to be prepared and just a little entertained.

For entertainment, I only got one book:  Grimm’s Fairytales.  I’ve never read them and I’ve always been intrigued by darker versions of my favorite stories.  I’m hoping that I’ll find at least one new favorite among the tales.

Proposal Planning & Writing: Fourth EditionSo what kind of books did I find to prepare me?  Well, with producing there is always the aspect of money.  Grants are a filmmaker’s savior and so I just had to grab a copy of Jeremy T. and Lynn E. Miner’s book Proposal Planning and Writing: Fourth Edition .  Just by reading the first 3 chapters, I already have been able to find over 50 grants that could be applied for in the future.  It comes with tons of links listed right on the back, but each of those links are explained throughout the book.  Plus, there are even more websites listed as examples as you are reading.  The writers put everything in layman’s terms so even the dumbest of us could figure this stuff out.  I love it.

As for the other books, after working on so many sets, I feel like the best sets run best when treatedentrepreneurmagazinebook in a professional manner, the way a business would run.  So, I picked up Entrepreneur Magazine’s Start Your Own Business by Rieva Losnsky, Successful Delgation by Frank F. Huppe, and 1001 Ways to Reward Employees by Bob Nelson.  I haven’t looked over any of them, but I’m hoping to have a better understanding of management when I’m finished.  I must be crazy, but I need to be able to take care of myself.

My mom is dying from total liver failure, and she doesn’t want to live anymore.  Wow.  I can’t be actually wrote that out.  I haven’t told many of my friends.  Only about 2 or 3 of them are aware of the situation.  Gosh, I’m a downer aren’t I.  But I guess it was the only way I could explain one of the other books I picked up today: Don’t Let Death Ruin Your Life by Jill Brooke.  My mom might not be dead yet, but just thinking about her causes a pain in my chest and makes breathing difficult.  School starts soon and I need to be able to breathe.

Wow!  So this is probably a pretty long post for all of you out there in the blogverse and probably pretty crazy with it’s twists and turns.  I hope you all find something to your liking, however.  And since you’ve made it to the end of my crazy post, I feel the need to reward you with a little something from my favorite show, TRUE BLOOD:
